AUCKLAND PARK - Mamas learn how to make bags from denim material.

Clover mamas bag it up

Clover Mama Afrika recently held their Denim Drive at Bernina in Auckland Park. Selected women and sewing members were invited to participate in the Denim Drive bag making course. The women learnt how to make trendy tog bags, handbags and shopping bags which are all items that are easily sold and will hopefully increase their sewing income.

Ashbury’s Selestien Moses said she thoroughly enjoyed the worthwhile course.

“It was a lot of fun and a great experience. I never thought that it can be so simple to make good quality bags for all occasions.”

Jabulisile Binase of Umlazi did a training session on an industrial machine which will be going back with her to their children’s care centre.

“It is time for the sewing members from Mama Eunice Dlamini’s children’s centre to receive an industrial machine which we got for a really good price from Bernina. These ladies work so hard on their machines and really need the correct tools to deliver the demands,” said the founder of Clover’s corporate social initiative, Professor Elain Vlok.

The trainees have now completed a week filled with new knowledge about bag making and decorating and they each returned home with no less than four different types of bags made by the their own hands.
