Dumping at eco-development?
NEWLANDS - Workers claim dumpers have cleaned up their act.
The property development bordering Albertsville, Newlands and historic Sophiatown has been a bone of contention for many years.
Residents claim the open veld has been used as a dumping ground.
Northcliff Melville Times investigated the issue (Eco-estate a dumping ground, week ending 20 December) in which we were told by site foreman Martin Bredenkamp of Diesel Power that there would be 24-hour security for the next six months with a bulldozer parked at the entrance each night.
After further complaints from residents, Northcliff Melville Timesreturned to the site and was told by workers that signs had been erected warning against dumping, and that only Diesel Power workers and trucks were allowed on site.
We did observe only Diesel Power trucks on the property, and much of the rubbish that was seen before had been removed. Bredenkamp assured us that a front loader truck had been parked at the entrance every night and round-the-clock security remained on site.
Are people still dumping at the site? Take a picture or write a letter to us explaining what you’ve seen.
