Recycling made difficult
WESTDENE- Westdene thieves make recycling a nightmare for a resident.

“What happens to our recycle bags?” asks Lieza Louw of Westdene after retrieving footage of “a Ronnie thief” from her CCTV camera.
As weird as this may seem, numerous incidents like this occur in the area, according to Mpact Recycling, who is responsible for distributing the Ronnie bags to the community.
“Let us be responsible citizens and recycle,” environmentalists often say. But what happens when your attempt to be an exemplary resident and spend hours on end making sure your family separates all the rubbish in different recycle bags and on the day of collection “a thief” mixes all the recyclable materials with non-recycle ones then steals your Ronnie bag?
“When bags are stolen no new ones are distributed, which is understandable, but makes it really difficult to recycle which I am committed to doing. I think the quality of the paper recycle bag makes it a very usable commodity,” comments Louw.
However, according to Mpact, their employees deliver Ronnie bags for free in numerous areas, even if residents’ bags have been stolen they can still get a new one. Mpact delivers bags to Linden on Mondays, Northcliff on Thursdays and on Fridays in Melville. So stop an Mpact employee, next time you see one in your street, and ask for a free replacement.
