Westdene home-dagga-lab uncovered

WESTDENE - Police are on the hunt for an alleged Westdene 'drug-lord' after a large-scale drug bust.

A sophisticated hydroponic dagga laboratory was discovered in a Westdene home by members of the Johannesburg Police Flying Squad.

Police are appealing for information on the whereabouts of the home owner.

“Four people were arrested on 1 August after the raid on this drug operation, but we are still looking for the owner,” Sophiatown Police spokesperson Warrant Officer TJ de Bruyn said.

The police reported that it was one of the most sophisticated drug operations they’ve ever seen, complete with an enormous laboratory and a variety of dagga plants. Equipment including lights, manure and chemicals were found on the scene.

Hydroponic growing is a technique used to grow plants indoors during winter. The technique makes use of artificial light to promote photosynthesis, enabling indoor growth.
