Robbed and beaten for shoes

MILPARK - As he lay in the street after his motorcycle accident, robbers descended on him and beat him up for his shoes.

A 20-year old man is fighting for his life in the intensive care unit of the Milpark Hospital after bystanders roughed him up and robbed him – directly after his motorcycle accident.

Quinton Wagner’s motorcycle was reportedly hit by a bakkie in an accident in Krugersdorp on 5 September. About 20 bystanders at a nearby informal taxi rank surrounded him after he’d been thrown off his bike, and allegedly descended on him with the intent of robbing him. They then pulled him into nearby bushes and beat him up.

Wagner has undergone three operations after being admitted into hospital, and is dependent on life support to breathe.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes,” a bystander on the scene said.

“We saw the crowd throwing the boy around, pulling on his broken arms. When we jumped out of our vehicle to help, bystanders surrounded us. The robbers plucked the boy’s motorcycle helmet from his head, and fought each other to steal his shoes.”

The Krugersdorp Community Policing Forum were on the scene quickly and managed to disperse the robbers. Emergency services rushed Wagner to Milpark Hospital.

He has damaged his lungs, pancreas and liver, and six of his ribs, his right arm and his leg is broken.
