VICTORY PARK – Fun Chess was hosted at the De La Salle Holy Cross College Junior School.
Fun Chess was held at the De La Salle Holy Cross College Junior School on 21 March with all ages competing.
“There were over 100 entries, it has been a great turnout,” said organiser and chess player Corno Klaver. The event was open to all lovers of the fine game of chess. The sections were as follows: Open Section – open to all play 5 rounds 15/15 with clock; Primary School section is any Grade 1–7 and finally, the Development Section is for those born 2008 and later (Grade 1s and Grade Rs).
The hall was packed to capacity with rows of tables for each game. The gallery of family and audience watched over in support of all the players.
The results were:
Open Section:
First: Roberto de Abreu and tied for second, Andrian Chappel and Francois Oberholzer.
Primary School:
First: Jarrod Edwards, second: Musa Nyathi and third: Jemma Davies.
Development Section:
First: Finn Allan, second: Kyle Nolan and tied for third: Daniel Voigt and Brimson Tyler.
