Former actor on 5 Ds in success
ROOSEVELT PARK – Former actor turned businessman dishes out the secrets to success.
Actor and media personality Freedom Hadebe gave an inspiring talk to students at the Academy of Advanced Technology on 24 March.
From light-hearted comments to hard-hitting topics such as addiction, Hadebe was candour about the dark side of the entertainment industry and moving on into the business sector.
“In this industry, you need to keep your friends close and your enemies closer. With a great platform comes a greater responsibility.”
A former student at the academy, he encouraged the students to stay true to their dreams and aspirations, saying we don’t realise when we are young how our dreams affect everyone else.
“What legacy are you going to leave? Are you going to leave a legacy of greatness?” he asked.
Hadebe spoke about what he called the ‘Five Ds’
- Determination: It doesn’t matter what you do, apply the principle of determination in your everyday life.
- Dedication: Staying true to what you believe in.
- Devotion: In everything you do. Devotion comes from faith. Nobody said this life would be easy, each one of us has a mountain to climb. Devotion has a foundation in faith.
- Discipline: It will carry you when things are hard, not just at work or at school but at home as well. I used to sit with a dialogue coach for Afrikaans everyday for hours and it paid off.
- Diligence: It expresses excellence in what you do. Being the best will separate you from the rest. Wherever you go, you leave a trail.
“Life is a song, it depends what is playing,” the former 7de Laan actor concluded.
