Robbery plans foiled

WELTEVREDEN PARK – Police foiled two suspects' plans to rob a house, leaving one dead.

A suspect was fatally wounded  in Weltevreden Park on 21 April, after opening fire on two members of the Honeydew Police.

According to the Honeydew Cluster spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, Honeydew detectives stopped two suspicious looking men walking near Beyers Naudé Drive at around 4.20pm.

After the detectives identified themselves, one of the suspects “reached into a plastic bag, drew a revolver and fired at the detectives. The detectives returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect,” Muthan reported.

“The suspects were planning to commit a house robbery,” he added.

Muthan confirmed that the suspects were in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

“At the moment, the investigations are still at a very sensitive stage,” Muthan concluded.
