The police made successful arrests during crime prevention operations in several parts of the province including in Honeydew.
According to SAPS provincial spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini, more than 190 suspects were apprehended and 11 firearms were seized.
“Three of the firearms were recovered during stop-and-search operations. The firearms will be sent for ballistic examination as we suspect that they might have been involved in serious and violent crimes in the province.”
In Honeydew, 23 people were arrested for possession of dagga/ drugs. In total, 90 suspects were arrested in the area between 1 and 8 June.
“The arrests made ranged from murder, assault grievous bodily harm and defeating the ends of justice. The suspects are expected to appear in different courts soon,” said spokesperson for Honeydew Police, Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs.
The Police also appeal to members of the public to always report suspicious vehicles and people to their nearest police station.
