Communities clean their neighbourhood
SOPHIATOWN – Communities help clean up their streets
Residents of Sophiatown and members of the Sophiatown Sector 3 CPF (community policing forum) have participated in a community clean-up initiative alongside West Park Road and the corner of Thomas Pringle Street on 4 July.
The aim of the clean-up was to improve and maintain the West Park Cemetery perimeters and to ensure that litter be removed, ensuring the beautification of the area.
Member of the CPF Liz Richter explained the extent of the clean up initiative. “The community noticed that the cemetery was in a desperate need of a clean up,” she said.
Richter also pointed out that the CPF intends to have more clean-ups in the future. “We usually discuss these clean-ups at our monthly CPF meetings held every third Tuesday of the month by 7pm at Montgomery Haven,” she said
Ward 86 councillor Steve Kotze was extremely pleased with the community’s clean-up initiative, “The CPF Sector 3 which encompasses Montgomery Park, Albertville and surrounds should be commended for the initiative,” he said.
Kotze explained that these initiatives help raise public awareness and lessen incidents where members of the public could fall victim to crime while walking alongside the West Park area.
