Dabs leads the way
EMMARENTIA – Dabulamanzi Canoe Club claims victory at Germiston Lake.
Victoria Lake Canoe Club hosted a 24km race at Germiston Lake to assist paddlers with building up fitness, stamina and preparation for tough A-grade races coming up on the calendar.
Despite the icy wind and cold front that swept through the night before, the morning of 1 August was sunny and warm, and paddlers shed their beanies and gloves after the first lap on the glassy smooth lake as the day warmed up.
Dabulamanzi Canoe Club team of Dave Hamilton-Brown and Marco Magni took the honours in 1:51:00, as the top sub-veteran age winners earning two podium positions. Second place winners were Centurion paddlers Theo Smit and James Thorburn, while the third place winners were from Benoni’s Homestead Dam, Michael and Liam Stewart.
