Policewomen show their power on the road
Armed policewomen from Laanglaagte, Sophiatown, Brixton, Moffatview, Booysens, Mondeor and Fairland police stations held a massive roadblock on 20 August in Westdene as part of Operation Basadi (women) in celebration of Women’s Month.
Johannesburg Cluster communications officer Warrant Officer Gordon Billing said Operation Basadi is done annually to highlight the role of policewomen.
“Our men are also part of it, but we are led by women from all SAPS units. We are happy that so far, we haven’t made arrests. This is one big success, it shows that our people are at least getting the message clear, they are trying hard to stay away from criminal activities,” said WO Billing.
He said they identified Westdene as one of the crime hotspots.
