Suspects remanded in custody

GREENSIDE – Police are still searching for the third suspect.

Two of the three robbery suspects who were arrested by Parkview Police following a tip-off, were remanded in custody after appearing in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court on 12 October.

The suspects aged 29 and 45 were arrested after a housebreaking and robbery incident which occurred at 4am at a property in Cruden Bay Road in Greenside on 6 October.

“The arrest on 9 October followed after an anonymous tip-off by an informant who alleged to know the whereabouts of the suspects involved in the incident,” said Parkview Police spokesperson Sergeant Lloyd Ramovha.

He said police initially made one arrest.

“Subsequent investigations revealed that the very informant was in fact involved in the same robbery. He bizarrely turned to the police since he felt cheated in the process of sharing of the stolen loot,” explained Sgt Ramovha.

According to the police, the suspects allegedly threatened the victim with a knife before fleeing the scene with the stolen goods which included laptops, cellphones and a purse, valued at about R50 000.

“Some of the items have been recovered and handed back to the grateful owner. The third suspect is still at large,” concluded Sgt Ramovha.
