A clean Westdene
WESTDENE – Residents of Westdene go out of their way to keep their community clean.
Residents of Westdene came together to clean their neighbourhood on 4–6 December.
Westdene Resident’s Association asked streets to raise funds for containers to be placed in selected streets and a rush to support the initiative by Westdene residents ensued with a few residents donating money.
Combined with generous donations from Milo Hardware and Linda’s Bake and Pack, enough funding was raised to have 15 containers placed in strategic points in Westdene. These points were chosen based on the incoming donations. Some streets provided funding for two containers and these two containers were placed in discussion with the street coordinator. Two streets raised enough funding to sponsor a container to be placed close to the Eeufees Oord Old-Age Home on Monmouth Road, as well as the daily wages for two workers.
Alan Smit from Busy Bee Containers was approached by the Westdene Resident’s Association. They placed the containers, as well as picked them up, and in addition they picked up any bagged garbage. It is estimated that 600 wheelie bins were emptied and bagged, and this enormous amount of garbage was disposed of in a registered dump site outside the municipal boundaries.
