Sophiatown Neighbourhood Watch (SNW) extends sincere condolences to the family of Laerskool Generaal Christiaan de Wet teacher, Jacoba Hendrika Steyn (68), who passed away on 28 January.
SNW chairperson Dauw Steyn said the neighbourhood watch was saddened by her passing.
He explained that she was part of the community for years and some of the patrollers and even their parents were taught by her.
“We send our sincerest condolences to the family and teachers as well as pupils at General Christiaan de Wet Primary School,” he said.
He further said that a great pillar of the community had fallen. “We salute you for all you have done and achieved. Your footsteps in this community and the impact you had will never be forgotten,” he concluded.
Hendrika Steyn was a Grade 4 teacher and she started her career at the same school in 1972 until she went on early retirement in 2008. She then went back to help out at the school again until she passed away.
Family member Bertha Rina said the funeral will be held at NG Church Triomf in Sophiatown on 2 February at 12pm.
Steyn died of kidney failure.
