Clean it with Vuma!
MELVILLE – Vumatel took to the streets of Melville to empty dustbins during the Pikitup strike.

The telecommunications company, Vumatel, took it upon themselves to empty the bins in Melville.
Vumatel is currently deploying its network in Melville and strives to work with the residents and community when in a suburb. It came to their attention that residents had a refuse problem because of the recent Pikitup strike, so Vumatel arranged a rubbish removal service to do the rounds on 10 April.

The service was communicated through local WhatsApp groups so that residents knew when to leave out their bins. The pick-up was not broadcasted or publicised to protect the safety of the team of the private removal company, Future Energy Waste Solutions.

Kirsten Eddey, marketing manager for Vumatel, said, “The day was a great success. The teams worked from 8am to 3pm emptying all the bins that had been left out by the residents. The residents were really helpful and grateful, running out of their homes to say thank you and give the workers something to drink. It was a quiet day and luckily there were no threats of violence, which was something we were quite concerned about given the recent strikes.”
“It was important for us to do this for the Melville community because they have been so welcoming and accommodating to the Vumatel teams as we work through the suburb to deploy our network,” Eddey added.
@VUMA_Melville thank you for clearing our dustbins. Happy Sunday! @CityofJoburgZA
