Party back to the 1920s

AUCKLAND PARK – A 95th Birthday party to remember was held at Auckland Park Preparatory School.

Auckland Park Preparatory School (Apps) commemorated 95 years of educational success and to celebrate the event, the school transported past and present pupils back to the roaring 20s.

The all-girls school was founded in 1921 and prides itself on an ethos of family and sustaining traditions. Secretary at the school, Kate Becker said the theme of 1920s tea with boas, beads and bowlers made for an exciting celebration.”Over 100 people enjoyed meeting up again,” said Becker. She added that former headmistresses, Christine Geeza and Karen Symons joined in on the special event where nostalgic stories were recalled over tea and laughs.

The current Grade 6 and 7 pupils took groups of visitors on tours of the school. In keeping with tradition, the youngest and oldest visitors jointly lit the candle of the 95th birthday cake.

Becker concluded that the senior school choir had visitors enthralled with amazing singing and visitors then joined in and sang the school prayer and song. “It was a wonderful occasion to catch up with former Apps family members and reminisce about the good ol’ days,” she said.
