With Auckland Park Preparatory School holding fast to its traditions and yearly events, the school once again held its Flower Festival.
This festival is an annual event where pupils and staff celebrate the school’s birthday. “This year, we celebrated turning 95 years old,” said the school’s secretary, Kate Becker.
According to Becker, each grade had a theme around which to create arrangements. “The Grade 0 pupils had an informal flower arrangement [theme] where they had to arrange their flowers in a tin vase. The pupils painted the tin vases and made it unique to them.”
She added that the flower arrangements were then viewed by visitors and everyone at the school, after which a special birthday assembly took place.
“During the assembly, a big birthday cake was presented and a candle was lit.” The cake was lit by the youngest and oldest girls in the school. Becker concluded that after the special ceremony, everyone at the school enjoyed a slice of birthday cake which had been baked and iced by one of the pupil’s mothers at the school.
