Confusion amidst sudden closure
NORTHCLIFF – The Northcliff Health and Squash Club closed abruptly, leaving members confused and frustrated.
The Northcliff Health and Squash Club has been closed due to arrears and non-payment of rent until further notice.
The sudden news did not go down well with its 3 500 members, according to club manager of 17 years, Tony Miller. Members also contacted the Northcliff Melville Times with the same frustrations.
“We came to work on Monday and found the doors locked,” Miller said, together with a group of the club’s employees. The doors of the club have apparently been closed since 21 January.
The centre’s management, Zotos International Development, confirmed that the closure is due to non-payment of rent.
This has left employees wondering whether their January salaries will be paid. They told the Northcliff Melville Times that they had received no communication on the matter whatsoever.
Who the landlord and owner of the club is, is unclear. Both Miller and other employees said the owner of the building also owns the club. Zotos International Development did not comment further and did not provide the name of the owner.
Club members who arrived on Monday were met by trainers who informed them about the closure, and then took down their names and contact details.
Some customers were told that the club could be closed for two or so months and were advised to stop their debit orders in the meantime.
Updates will follow as soon as new information is made available.
