MUST READ: Police investigate the murder of two women whose bodies were found in Soweto

ROSSMORE – The bodies of Popi Gumede and Bongeka Phungula were found a day apart in Soweto.

Gumede, who is alleged to be a staff member at Helen Joseph Hospital, and her friend, Bongeka Phungula, were discovered a day apart.

Captain Tsekiso Mofokeng of Moroka Police Station said that Gumede’s body was found in the Naledi area not far from her residence in Zola, while Phungula’s body was found in Tladi.

Mofokeng explained that the two bodies were found on 12 and 13 May respectively and had been identified by their families.

No arrests have been made.

Tweets poured out from friends and colleagues of the two victims after they learned of their deaths. One of the many tweets was from Gumede’s colleague who wrote of the sadness.

Police are investigating these cases and are appealing to the community to come forward with any information that can assist them in their investigations.
