On the morning of 24 May, several gun shots pulsated through Castlehill Drive when five suspects allegedly attempted to make off with a black Polo Vivo. The victim of car theft alleged shot back at the suspects in self-defense.
Constable Moloko Kgatla of Fairland Police Station said there was an exchange of gunfire after the owner of the vehicle was allegedly shot at.
“We are not sure if any of the suspects were injured through the exchange,” said Kgatla.
Police are now looking for the unidentified suspects.
A case of theft of a motor vehicle and one of attempted murder have been opened at the station.
“Though the owner eventually found the car, a charge of theft of motor vehicle has still been opened as they still managed to take the vehicle from him.”
Kgatla concluded by urging residents to be more vigilant and to be on the lookout for any suspicious persons loitering in the area.
