Sunflower Day brightens up Opti-Baby nursery school

NORTHCLIFF – Children from a local nursery school participate in a worthy cause for the Sunflower Fund.

Opti-Baby nursery school celebrated Sunflower Day on 15 September by wearing their Sunflower Fund topes and bandanas.

The Sunflower Fund is a non-profit organisation which was established in 1999 in support of the South African Bone Marrow Registry. The organisation is also actively involved in creating a platform for support structures to assist patients, their families and communities.

Opti–Baby’s Marita Louw said it has been an honour to support this initiative for the last ten years at their nursery school, where parents, children and the staff wear bandanas and get involved.

“During the years the beautiful sunflower patterns on the bandanas and this year’s topes have been a reminder of how many South Africans struggle with leukaemia and are in desperate need of blood stem cell transplants,” said Louw.

She added that the school also supports various other initiatives to help those in need. These include a sprayathon for the Cancer Association of South Africa and Matla A Bana comfort packs for abused children.

“We taught the older children about the Sunflower Day initiative and what cancer is about. The little ones are taught about helping other people who are sick. We wish to thank our parents for opening their hearts in support of the Sunflower Fund. Buy your topes and support the Sunflower Fund,” said Louw.
