Vox Pop: Can we protest better?

NORTHCLIFF – From blocking roads to burning tyres and even to walking down the street, South Africans have impactful ways of making a statement. Residents give their opinion on how we protest as a nation, and can we do it better?

From blocking roads to burning tyres and even to walking down the street, South Africans have impactful ways of making a statement. We asked residents for their opinion on the way we protest as a nation. This is what you had to say …

DITEKO NKWANA: Violent protests are delivered wrong. Free speech allows them to say anything. I don’t think it is an ideal way of communication.

TRACY DAVIS: We do need a platform to express ourselves and exercise freedom of expression. The problem is trying to find that correct forum to speak.

FRAN HASLAM: I think everybody has freedom of speech. It is one way of telling people they are not happy. I don’t like the violence. I think it should be peaceful and happen through negotiation.

ALLEN MCCAB: I think there are better ways of doing it, but I don’t know if anyone has the answer. People get frustrated because the election is still far away.
