Former police officer arrested with stolen Durban vehicle

JOBURG – An ex-cop was found in possession of a stolen vehicle.

On 7 May, Johannesburg Flying Squad police officers reacted to a tracker alert of a white Hyundai ix35 SUV vehicle which had been reported stolen at Montclair Police Station in Kwazulu-Natal.

The officers spotted the vehicle parked at the corner of Bree and Ntemi Piliso streets in Newton with one occupant sitting in the driver’s seat.

“The police officers pounced on the vehicle and arrested the suspect,” said Sergeant Desmond Subramoney, Johannesburg Flying Squad media officer.

“On further investigations, it was discovered that the suspect was a former police officer [who had been] discharged from the police service due to him facing murder charges against him,” said Subramoney.

The stolen white Hyundai vehicle was confiscated and the suspect (25) will appear in the Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court facing charges of possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
