Local actor speaks to about his bullying experience

VICTORY PARK – Sven Ruygrok inspirational message strikes a chord in King David High learners' hearts.

VICTORY PARK – Sven Ruygrok visited King David High School and spoke to the Grade 8 and 9 learners as part of the Anti-Bullying Programme.

The South African-born actor Ruygrok, who plays the part of Rambo in the local movie Spud, spoke to the learners in an interactive way. He taught the learners the importance of awareness in the school and with peers.

Ruygrok shared his personal story of how he was bullied for being a gymnast and actor. He explained how bullies thrive off the power they get from the group who support them. “It only takes one person to stand up to the bully and without their ‘backup’, bullies won’t survive,” he said.

He appealed the learners to be the person who stands up to bullies by reporting incidents to teachers and seeking help from the school and also urged learners to choose their words wisely.

“Another excellent defence against bullying is building up your confidence using your talents and gifts. Instead of judging people based on their outside image, rather focus on getting to know who that person is on the inside.”

The learners at King David High were left inspired by the actor’s message.
