Sector 3 Crime Forum hosts their second Security Expo
SOPHIATOWN – Crime forum chairperson thanks all those involved in the hosting of the second security expo for the year.
The more information on safety and security people have, the more likely they are to keep themselves safe. This is what M33 First Responders and Sophiatown Police Station believe and aim to make a reality. On 14 September M33 and Sophiatown police hosted their second Security Expo of the year at Sophiatown’s Extreme Park.
Founder of M33 and Sector 3 Crime Forum chairperson, Andrew Burger explained the purpose of the expo. “This expo gives community members the opportunity to see what government departments and private companies have to offer in terms of safety and security.
“This gives community members the opportunity to raise any questions or concerns with the relevant department and get insightful tips and information.”
The expo was graced with the presence of two very special guests. Sophiatown Police Station Commander Brigadier Alfred Ndebele was present and helped introduce the community to the police’s District Commander, Major General Max Masha.
Burger reflected on some of the moments that made the expo a memorable one. “Police’s Mounted Unit had their beautiful horse named De La Rey at the expo which rode between the stalls. The horse also enjoyed a game of soccer with the local community’s kids in kicking around a soccer ball.
“JMPD K9 Unit showed us just how amazingly trained their K9 was in sniffing out drugs and explosive powders. Emergency Control South Africa Johannesburg West entertained the kids with some games on running with a fire hose, flipping over a tyre, pulling a heavy rolled-up rope and saving a human doll.”
Vital Med also gave the kids some training on CPR and showed them around in their ambulance.
With various safety and security entities present on the day, those in attendance were sure to walk away with vital information on the topic. With multiple security-related companies present, emergency services, early childhood development experts and Sophiatown Police Station, tips and tricks flowed throughout the day to those that needed it most – the public. The City of Johannesburg was also represented as their Emergency Management Services, Licence Department and Metro police’s K9 Unit was there too.
Burger concluded, “We would like to thank all the exhibitors for taking the time and coming out to the community on a Saturday and displaying such informative stalls. We would also like to thank everyone involved in helping this event to take place.”
He went on to thank various officials in the police force including Brigadier Ndebele and General Masha for taking the time in visiting the expo and giving their support to this initiative.
