Senior citizens enjoy a community-sourced and organised Valentine’s Day meal and festivities

WARD 88 – Who wouldn't feel loved after a fulling warm meal, laughs, music and dancing?

The lovely residents of Emmarentia Eventide, Montgomery Haven, Rose village and G.E.M Homes joined Valentine’s love as they too celebrated the day. Thanks to the efforts of Felicity Gratz-Lawlor, residents of Ward 88 and Let’s Work, the senior citizens of these homes were spoilt to an amazing Valentine’s Day lunch and dinner. When asked why they got together to host such Gratz-Lawlor simply and joyfully said ‘because it’s Valentine’s’.

She explained, “How many of the elderly in our retirement villages get to celebrate fun occasions, be it Valentine’s, nights out at the theatre or a picnic in the park? We are all so busy with our own lives that we often forget how special just that little effort means to someone. As part of the ward committee, I am ensuring that everyone in our ward is remembered during the year.”

Gratz-Lawlor added, “Ward 88 residents have a fantastic sense of community. There is always someone in need and always someone willing to help.”

She thanked the residents of Ward 88, Col’Cocchio (El Corro), Curry Up (Northcliff) and SuperSPAR (Blackheath) for their support and involvement. “They all collaborated to ensure that everyone was served a five-star meal paired with entertainment and pure joy. The residents, draped in red and white, true Valentine’s fashion, enjoyed every second of the festivities. It’s good to know that the people, businesses and organisations in Ward 88 still look out and care for their senior citizen neighbours.”
