Hike away the lockdown blues

EMMARENTIA – Parks and nature reserves are only open for exercise, the use of the gym and playground is prohibited.

Get your running shoes out from the back of your wardrobe, and pack light essentials for a hike because the City’s Nature Reserves are open for exercise and hiking!

It’s time to enjoy the winter sun outside the confines of your lovely home, because let’s face it, seeing the same four walls daily can get a tad bit monotonous. To save us from going completely stir crazy, Joburg City Parks and Zoo has opened up their nature reserves with strong adherence to the level three lockdown regulations. Our beloved Johannesburg Botanical Gardens, found in Emmarentia, is therefore open for use albeit with some rules users have to adhere to such as:

  • Parks and nature reserves are only open for exercise, the use of the gym and playground is prohibited
  • Wear a face mask/covering at all times n No social gatherings/picnics n Keep spaces clean, take all disposables home
  • Practice social distancing, making sure to keep three metres apart
  • Practice good hygiene, as far as possible use the restroom at home and use hand sanitiser at all times n All dogs must be leashed and stay on designated dog paths. It is important dog walkers clean up after their dog.

Just note however, there will only be two gates open at the Botanical Gardens, Oliphants road/Floreum and New building entrances.
