Harvey’s Beacon of Light Foundation makes tails wag at their charity fun run/walk

NORTHCLIFF – Wagging tails and doting dog owners made their way to Muldersdrift on 25 October to take part in the first ever Harvey Beacon of Light Foundation fun run/walk.

Wagging tails and doting dog owners made their way to Muldersdrift on 25 October to take part in the first-ever Harvey Beacon of Light Foundation fun run/walk.

The foundation, a non-profit company committed to supporting and improving the lost, found and stolen animal response in South Africa, held this event to bring awareness to the lost and stolen dog epidemic in South Africa, as well as raise funds to help animal shelters and animals in need across Johannesburg.

One of its organisers, Roxy Athanasopoulos said a portion of the money raised would go towards assisting the foundation’s hero shelters of the month, Paws R Us and The Dog Trust, with food, dog bowls, blankets and various other items on their wish list.

On the day, barks and laughs harmonised together like a beautiful song that spoke of pure happiness. Athanasopoulos said the whole day felt like a dream. “I could not believe how many people from the community showed up to support our foundation and to walk in honour of Harvey, the love and support from everyone was so overwhelming,” she added.

Athanasopoulos said she couldn’t help but get emotional seeing how many lives their angel boy Harvey, a French bulldog that went missing a few months ago and was subsequently found deceased two weeks later, had touched and because of him so, many animals would be saved and assisted.

This is the first of many events of its kind and they learned so much from hosting it while having the most incredible time, she added. “I learned that if you do something with unconditional love and goodness it can never fail. This event would have not been possible without the incredible volunteers that worked super hard throughout it all and helped us make it a success.”
