Finding new Covid-safe ways to connect with friends
MELVILLE – The Melville Koppies could be one way for you to connect with friends while being socially distant.
Volunteer at Melville Koppies, Jenny Grice, shares how Covid-19 has forced people to relook at how we keep socialising with friends and family who live outside your family bubble.
She believes an outing to the Koppies is proving to be a popular solution. “Friends (or family) meet up at Melville Koppies where the younger members can skip along the paths, babble on to each other and urge each other up the steep parts,” she said.
She added behind them, their parents can chat and walk at a more leisurely pace. With 55 hectares to explore on numerous paths that criss-cross it, “There’s plenty of fresh air to breathe in and little chance that you’ll have to share it with those outside your group.”
The lecture hut is also said to be a good stop to have some snacks. “So too is the top of the Koppies where on a clear day you can see all the way to Magaliesberg. Or stop and chill down at the river.”
Even better, according to Grice, is that when you get home, there’ll be no dishes to wash up, you’ve caught up with friends, done your exercise for the day and, if you’re really lucky, those little ones will be so exhausted that they’ll need a little nap and give you some welcome respite.
