Storytelling with snaps

BLACKHEATH – The passion of storytelling through photography.

Aspiring photographer looks to show the world how he sees and pictures it.

Growing Champions member and up-and-coming photographer Tshepang Mokoena (https://www.instagram.com/tshepangs.stories/?hl=en) believes in the art of telling stories through photographs and images as he continues his journey with the art form.

Tshepang has been doing photography for just over two years and has already fallen in love with sharing people’s stories and taking them on a trip down memory lane. “I love the fact that I’m able to tell stories that people don’t see at times. I’ve noticed that when people see my photos they usually have a story or a similar incident that occurred to them that relates to my photo. When they see a photo I shot, it will just remind them of something that has happened to them before.”
Like every other photographer, he also loves capturing and sharing people’s feelings and realities in that specific moment.

Tshepang credited fellow photographer and visual artists Kamva Goso  as the man behind all the motivation in his own photography. “He has shared advice with me that has changed my persepctive on photography into seeing it into a way more artistic form of storytelling. Looking at his work inspires me a lot because each and every photograph portrays a short or long story in it, and I’m also able to take out a message from the photograph.”
He has also learnt through Goso that you don’t need the best equipment to get started on your passions, stating that he could have better cameras and software, which he aims to get one day, but his current photography comes out best using the equipment he has.

Tshepang described his style of photography as artistic with a strong sense of storytelling. He explained, “When people look at my photos I hope they see the kind of stories and emotions I portray in a photograph I have shot. The whole aim of my photos when people see them is for them to read the message behind the image without even reading the caption.”
Tshepang would love to be given the opportunity to share the stories of others and has therefore offered his services, skills and unique perspective to the community.
