Farewell Mr Mayor

Journalist reflects on working with Mayor Matongo.
The news of the accident taking the life of City of Johannesburg Mayor Jolidee Matongo has shocked the public of Johannesburg. Since his passing tributes have been pouring in for Matongo and have described him as a jolly, yet, disciplined mayor who was taken too soon.
Caxton Local Media journalist Andile Dlodlo is one of those that have been saddened and shocked by his passing. Dlodlo expressed, “I engaged with Matongo and his team during his tenure as finance MMC throughout the Covid-19 lockdown.
He was always willing to speak directly to the media, and every time he did, he was respectful, social and focused on doing his best to serve the residents of Johannesburg.”
This spirit continued as he replaced Geoffrey Makhubo as mayor, but it ended tragically.
