The crowds were small in the early morning at Melpark Primary school. Voters remarked how they came to make a difference and felt their vote accomplished just that.

ANC Ward 117 candidate Christo Alfred Morolong encouraged all in the community to go out and vote. “People should go out and vote for a party that best represents them at the various levels.” He pleaded with the youth to come out in their numbers.

DA ward 117 councillor Tim Truluck said today is the community’s chance to determine how they want their city to be run. “At the moment, Joburg is rapidly collapsing under decades of very little maintenance and poor service delivery from badly run and resourced entities.”

Voting line at Laerskool Generaal Christiaan de Wet was longer though, with people eager to cast their vote on this warm day. There are also officers on hand to ensure safety.

At some stations, seating has been provided for the elderly.
