Watch: 12-hour-long City Council meeting erupts in chaos
While it has not been confirmed what caused the altercation, a live-stream from the Johannesburg City Council Chamber showed incidences of shoving and pushing among councillors.

Following a more than 12-hour delay, the City of Johannesburg’s seventh Extra-Ordinary Council Meeting erupted in chaos just after midnight on August 11, forcing councillors to vacate the chamber in a hurry.
While it has not yet been confirmed what caused the altercation, video clips shared in the city’s YouTube channel showed incidences of shoving and pushing among councillors at the chamber in Braamfontein.
Watch:
Members of the ANC could be heard singing while the EFF could be seen storming the speaker’s podium. The situation quickly developed, forcing council members in attendance leave the chamber immediately as small fights broke out across the the chamber.
MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Michael Sun described the events as an ’embarrassment’.
.@CityofJoburgZA council ydy was an embrassment to the people of #Joburg.
It bodes badly for the immediate future of Democracy in our city and our country.
It also reminds me of a Chinese proverb: “The one who first resorts to violence shows that he has no more arguments.” pic.twitter.com/THfAVDfLgA
