Getting to the heart of the matter at De La Salle Holy Cross College
The Grade 3 class witnesses the dissection of a heart, something they approached with keen interest.
Some things can sound a bit yucky until you see them up close, and find they actually are yucky but very interesting too.
This must have been the experience of the Grade 3 class of De La Salle Holy Cross College Junior School recently when they experienced their first heart dissection. The organs used were from an ox and buck.

The children were not too squeamish, showing more intrigue than apprehension, as they approached the morning with the sort of interest any young doctor in the making would.

“Our Grade 3 pupils were given the most amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunity by Dr Anne Zeijlstra.

She is an anaesthetist, and she performed a heart dissection for the pupils to feel and see what a real heart looks like underneath the skin,” said teacher, Lee Graham who added it was all very exciting indeed.
