A fantastic community day at Kingston Frost Park
The Brixton community came together recently to have a fun day at their beloved local park.
Brixton residents enjoyed the Kingston Frost Park Community Day which was a day of fun and festivities.
For this community, this vibrant park serves as a place where one can join gym classes, boxing lessons, volunteers doing art classes for local children, markets, park clean-ups, and a cycling project teaching first-timers (including adults) to cycle.

The day started off with a small market where local vendors sold handmade items, baked goods, and vintage clothes. The market is said to have been a great opportunity for residents to support each other and find unique gifts for loved ones. Brixton resident and professional musician Naledi Dweba’s beautiful saxophone playing was the perfect backdrop for the event.

The Shade Youth Programme had its first class for 2023, and kids from all over Brixton had the opportunity to learn and be creative with their teachers and friends. The bicycle cycling school uses the park regularly to teach people how to ride, and the day was no exception. “It was heartening to see how many people came together to pick up litter and help keep the park looking its best,” said local, Sophia Welz

Young local, Nosipho Nkosi said, “Community days like this one are great – I got to see friends that I don’t see every day, and I got to spend some time with my neighbour Palesa, we sold waffles at the market and that was fun! The park was looking so clean after everyone did their part.”

Friends of Kingston Frost Park received donations from members of the community that will go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the park.
The day was a resounding success and was described as being a testament to the strength of the community and the importance of coming together to support the places that bring us joy.
