One suspect arrested for unlicenced gun and possession of drugs

Sophiatown police on patrol chase down a man who fled when he saw the crime prevention unit on patrol.

Sophiatown Police Station spokesperson Captain TJ de Bruyn said their crime prevention unit was busy on a routine patrol near Sophiatown when a suspect started to run when he saw police members.

He said a chase ensued on foot which resulted in the individual being caught and subsequently arrested. “The suspect had an unlicensed firearm and 22 live rounds of ammunition. He also had eight bags containing drugs. The charges laid against him relate to both the gun and bullets and for dealing in drugs.”
