Armed robbers shot a Beagle Watch officer as he provided backup at a home in Fairland

Brazen criminals target home as they successfully gain access to a residential property and terrorise house sitter.

After jumping over the wall and breaking through a security gate, armed intruders in Fairland assaulted the victim and opened fire on response officers at the scene who were responding to an alarm activation.

“Two armed suspects restrained the victim with cable ties and forced her to give them money,” says Andre Aiton.
“We received a panic activation in the early hours and two officers were immediately dispatched. The client is away on holiday, but the house sitter was at home.”

“Upon arrival, the officers noticed the front door was unlocked and suspected someone had entered the premises. They then heard the house sitter shouting at the back of the premises.”

“The arrival of our officers disturbed the suspects and they fled the scene, opening fire as they left.”

“As the suspects were fleeing the scene, they opened fire on our officers. One officer, who wishes not to be named, was wounded, while another officer was hit on his belt, but was thankfully not wounded,” says Aiton.

Aiton says the suspects gained access to the property by jumping over the perimeter wall and forcing open the security gate with a crowbar.

The officer who wishes not to be named was taken to the Milpark Hospital for treatment.

“He is in high spirits and will undergo surgery. As a team we are doing what we can to support him in this time.”
