WhatsApp group messages do not result in fault logging with entities

Ward 88 councillor Nicolene Jonker urges people to report faults correctly in order to have a faster resolution to a problem.

All city entities need reference numbers for logged faults which are then converted into a job number. These are used to issue job cards which enable technicians to be allocated to a specific fault or problem for it to be resolved.

“When residents do not log faults or wait some time before logging which can cause delays in the entity like Joburg Water attending to the query,” says Ward 88 councillor Nicolene Jonker.

She says too many people are saying in community WhatsApp groups that they have a problem or fault. “This does not mean it is logged and reported and will do nothing to get resolution to the problem.”

Jonker says she can also only escalate a call with the following information:

  • Your name
  • Mobile number
  • Address
  • Date when issue was logged
  • Time when issue was logged
  • Reference number
  • Short description of the problem

“Especially for Joburg Water and City Power the process is simple and quick and you get your reference number.”

She says it then makes it possible for her to fight on behalf of the resident if the fault is not dealt with timeously.

“If you want to order a pizza or online purchase you need to make the effort to place the order so that it can be dispatched to you as my fellow councillor explained.”
