Marks Park Tennis Championships showcase the best

The championships saw players either become three-time champions or pioneers in their age categories.

The Marks Park Tennis Club has just completed the 2024 annual club championships. The tournament produced some great tennis, with many tightly contested matches in a variety of sections.

The ladies singles event was won by Kim Peters when she beat Lisa Wade to retain the title she has held for a record number of years.
Peters, who is now a triple champion, partnered with Wade in the ladies’ doubles and with Bradwin Williams in the mixed doubles events.

Seventeen-year-old James Hart, beat Lloyd Segal to take the men’s singles title. He is one of only four previous singles champions to win the title while in his 18th year. The club’s chairperson, Lynda Johnson, said seeing him in action validates the reason why he was selected to accompany the Davis Cup team to Vietnam as a hitting partner.

Segal and Philip Lawson joined forces to wrest the men’s doubles title from longstanding champions Paul Trumpelmann and Uys Jordaan.

“The tournament was played in good spirits, showcasing the sportsmanship for which our club is renowned,” said Johnson.
