VOX POP: Residents reflect on the importance of the upcoming elections

As the country marks 30 years since the shackles of apartheid were thrown off, the political landscape is uneasy. We spoke to some residents about their opinions on the polls.

There are murmurs that the upcoming election will be the ‘most important’ election of South Africa’s young democracy.

The paper spoke to residents who shared their views on this as we count down to the upcoming national and provincial elections next month.

Anton Adlam: I think it is the most important election since independence because we got to get rid of the ruling party, hope whichever party wins brings change.

Yandisa Mabheka: I think these elections are important because, ever since the democracy things have been easy here in South Africa, and am hoping whichever party wins will make a difference.
