Celebrating 30 years of history and community at MHA Rose Village
MHA Rose Village celebrates 30 years of nurturing community and its residents independence. With heartfelt stories from residents and a commitment to enhancing lives, this milestone event is a token to the vibrant life within the village.
MHA Rose Village recently marked a significant milestone, celebrating its 30th anniversary on November 19. The event commemorated three decades of providing a nurturing environment for residents since its first inhabitants took residence in September 1994.

Manager Marcia Visser expressed her pride in the village’s journey, highlighting the presence of three original residents who continue to call MHA Rose Village home: Joan Irish, Dalene Luxon, and Helen Bird. “This celebration is about life and the community we’ve built here,” Visser stated. “Our residents can live without the daily worries of maintenance, with medical care readily available on-site.”
The anniversary event was a symbol of the village’s commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents, fostering a sense of belonging and independence. Visser credited the success of the village to its residents, as well as the ongoing support from MHA’s head office, which oversees 14 homes. “Our biggest marketing tool is word of mouth,” she noted, highlighting the importance of community engagement in attracting new residents.

The village has recently undergone modernisation efforts, to create a welcoming atmosphere for newcomers. The anniversary celebration brought a sense of excitement to the village, with residents eagerly planning their outfits and hairstyles for the occasion. “After the challenges posed by COVID-19, which made many hesitant to attend events, the turnout was amazing,” Visser remarked. “We look forward to making the next celebration even bigger.”
Bird, the village’s eldest resident at 103 years old, shared her joy about the anniversary. “It was absolutely lovely. Being the longest resident here, I feel very blessed. It is wonderful to see how far the village has come, and you can see the happiness on everyone’s faces,” she said.
Visser said that Rose Village is more than just a retirement home; it is a vibrant community where residents can maintain their independence and continue to thrive. “Life does not end here. You can still live and function in a retirement complex,” she affirmed.
As MHA Rose Village looks to the future, the management and residents are excited about the prospect of new anniversaries and the opportunity to welcome more residents into their thriving community. The celebration not only honoured the past but also inspired hope and enthusiasm for the years to come.
