University of Johannesburg netball star throws hoops in Malaysia

Joining the Putrajaya Dynamites in Malaysia for a month, University of Johannesburg netballer Muhluri Hlatshwayo is sure to make an international splash on the netball court.

Muhluri Hlatshwayo, a rising star from the University of Johannesburg (UJ) netball team, is currently showcasing her skills in Malaysia. The talented shooter has joined the Putrajaya Dynamites for a month-long stint in the Malaysian Netball Super League.

Hlatshwayo, known for her impressive shooting accuracy and calm demeanour on the court, has been a key player for UJ in recent years. Her contributions have been instrumental in the team’s success, including two consecutive appearances in the FNB Varsity Netball final. She has also played for the Limpopo Baobabs in the South African Telkom Netball League.

The third-year diploma in accountancy student has embraced her time in Malaysia with the Dynamites. “I’ve found that netball is fundamentally the same everywhere,” she says. “The team has a great culture, and I’m enjoying the people and the diverse food here.”

Originally from Malamulele, Limpopo, the netballer credits her success to the guidance and support of her UJ coach, Bongiwe Msomi. “Coach Bongi has been instrumental in my development as a player.” Adding that Msomi believed in her, and taught her everything she knows about netball today.

Hlatshwayo encourages aspiring netballers to work hard and seek guidance from experienced coaches. “Believe in yourself and your abilities,” she advises.

She arrived in Malaysia on January 17, taking to the court on February 1 when the league opened.
