Multi-award-winning craft brewery in Paulshof. We brew the beer that James Bond drinks!

It all began in 1970 when Steve Gilroy landed in South Africa and unable to drink the local beers, began home brewing.

The adventurous little brewery grew too big to hide in the corner of his factory and so Gilroy’s went legal. A difficult transition for an Irishman and the Gilroy Brewery officially opened in 2000.

The year 2008 saw Gilroy’s move to Muldersdrift, where it won multiple awards, including the global Daily Telegraph’s Best of British Pub in the world.

However, Muldersdrift changed through the years, and during the Covid-19 lockdown Gil said, “That’s it; I’m done! We are closing”. Enter Hannes Greyling, a bold Celtic-Afrikaans marauder who yelled, “No! Gilroy’s is legendary; it will not die here! I will buy it and we will raise the Phoenix and rebuild it together.”
And that’s just what happened.

Hannes searched far and wide for a new and perfect location, even to the borders of a fine and affluent land called Rivonia, and there he saw a vision of a very large jug of fine ale beckoning him towards a place called Rivonia crossing and he said, “This is a sign; I will rebuild a new glorious Gilroy’s on this spot and the people will once again laugh and have a bloody good time.”
Welcome to Gilroy’s…Welcome Home!

The Pub… The Beer… The Food… The Live Music… The Beer Garden under the majestic trees and the brewery moved almost effortlessly and magically to its new home. Who are we kidding? It almost killed him. And as a monument to the finest beers and a bit of a giggle, Gilroy’s stands testament to that one unwavering truth.

Life is better after a couple of Gilroy pints.

Let’s go to Gilroy’s!
