Not all heroes wear capes
Cindy Dilinga, a Roosevelt Park security guard, takes pride in her job and is not adverse to facing a threat if the need arises.

Being employed as a security guard comes with a willingness to put oneself in danger if needed to protect the lives or goods being protected.
We often hear praise for the police who do this, but thanks must also be given to security guards who bear some of the responsibility for keeping our city safe.
The infectious laugh and smiling eyes of Cindy Dilinga don’t give the appearance of someone who would, without thought, stare danger in the face and win.
Dilinga is an SCP Security guard for Rose Village, a retirement home in Roosevelt Park.
A while ago, when manning the entrance one afternoon, it became clear that hijackers or armed robbers were going to hijack a visitor’s expensive car as it was busy signing in.

Without a thought for her own safety, she managed to confuse the gunmen by loudly and frantically running toward them while also getting the visitors to manoeuvre their vehicle in such a way that they escaped unharmed.
The gunmen were caught off-guard by her reaction and did not manage to give chase quickly enough and were unsuccessful in their endeavours.
“I just wanted our guests and residents to be safe so did what I could and did not care what happened to me,” she said.
Head of SCP Security Clive Maher said, “Cindy is one of my best guards and has been with me since 2018. I know Rose Village is in safe hands with her there; we are very proud of her.”
Dilinga is a mother of two sons – an electrician and a student studying HR at university. She spoke proudly of them as she described her commitment to raising honourable and ethical men.
