The term ‘a man’s best friend’ has never been truer

Richard Bain and his dog Nacho take every opportunity to be in each other's company and do activities together.

Nacho, a Labrador-retriever cross was found wandering the streets two years ago.

Despite extensive searching by local vets and communities, the sad reality that his owners could not be found set in.

Luckily for him, at the same time, Richard Bain was looking to get a large dog and specifically wanted to rescue a stray. It was a match made in heaven for the pair when they were finally allowed to go home together.

Nala the cat and Nacho. They have become firm friends despite almost two years passing with the sceptical cat avoiding him.
Nothing better than a swim on a hot summers day.

Bain said, β€œHe is an incredible dog and was obviously loved as a puppy because he is socialised and travels well. I am very lucky to have found him.”

Nacho had a sizeable growth on his forehead which needed to be surgically removed. His vet and Bain wondered if that was why he was abandoned by his owners. The growth turned out to be hair follicles growing under his skin and once removed posed no future problems.

Boop! Nacho looks cute for the camera.

The pair are always together and go on adventures at every chance they get and explore the city on weekends when Bain visits friends or family. Their favourite activity though is an early morning run before the streets get busy, followed by a swim in the pool to cool off.

For the first time, Nala the cat joins Nacho on the sofa which was a special moment he had been waiting for in more than two years.

The two other dogs at Bain’s home accepted Nacho immediately. Nala the cat was very weary and avoided him for two years, much to the frustration of the friendly hound who was desperate to make friends with the mysterious little creature.

Richard Bain and Nacho enjoy a cuddle.

Last week, Nala quietly jumped onto the sofa where Nacho was sleeping and made herself comfortable. The look on his face was one of astonishment but he kept his cool and didn’t ruin the moment with enthusiastic licks and vigorous tail wagging.

The two have now become sleeping buddies every night.
