A blooming good time every month with the Horticultural Society
The Horticultural Society meet regularly to listen to lectures, buy plants and spend time with gardening enthusiasts in the City.
The Horticultural Society is looking forward to another successful year of gathering with friends and gardening enthusiasts.
The 105-year-old group meets monthly on the fourth Wednesday of each month with the first get-together in the new year on January 25 at 9:30am. They make use of The Roosevelt Recreation Centre in Emmarentia.
Member Eunice Summersell said, “We have speakers for each event and cover topics like working with indigenous plants, attracting bees to your garden, working with colourful blooms and so much more. We are also a good group to be a part of for any advice you may need for your gardening projects.” Occasionally they arrange trips to nurseries, to see private gardens, or other interesting outings linked in one way or another to gardening.
She added cheap and good quality plants were always on sale so the benefits of attending the gatherings were numerous.
“We are hoping to attract new members as we love meeting new people interested in flora and plant life whether they have years of experience or are just beginners hoping to learn and enjoy gardening.”
There are two ways in which to participate in these events. A nominal fee of R20 is paid for each meeting if you are a member of the society or if a member of the public would like to join in on an ad-hoc basis, the fee is R30.
