Orban School’s lovely winter project
The school recently observed World Wide Knit in Public Day

Did you know that June 10 was World Wide Knit in Public Day?
Though many in our beautiful communities probably missed observation of the day, Orban School made sure not to miss out on this opportunity.

According to its site, World Wide Knit in Public Day described the day as one that was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes. It began as a way for knitters to come together and enjoy each other’s company. Knitting is such a solitary act that it’s easy to knit alone.
So, joining other knitters across the globe was the Orban community who came together to knit squares that would help make woollen blankets for 67 Blankets as one of their Mandela Day projects. On the day, children, parents, and teachers gathered as they knitted and crocheted in the colours of their respective schoolhouses: Pyra (red), Terra (green) and Hydra (hydra).

There were also knitting and crochet tutors available to teach those who were interested but had not yet been skilled. Everyone had a lovely time working in unison.
Parents and learners can still hand in knitted squares until July 17, when school starts for the third term. It is a lovely winter holiday project.
