Spruit Day comes to Alberts Farm
The day, which also marked World Clean Up Day, was a huge success as it saw 100 bags of rubbish being collected.
Community members far and wide heeded the call to be the change they want to see in their community as they took part in Spruit Day.
Friends of Alberts Farm Conservancy lead the clean up which was organised by Rotary Club New Dawn. The rotary club thinks it important to keep our spruits clean as time is running out for our rivers and green spaces that support indispensable biological communities.
There were over 70 people, they were made up of volunteers from Lew Geffen, Park Run, Community Cleaners, 1st Honeydew Scouts, Northcliff Rotary Club, Northcliff High School, De La Salle Holy Cross College and SCP Security as well as community members just willing to help. Among them assisting, were the displaced that live at the park, who not only made their living space was clean but surrounds too.
Everyone involved seemed to have pulled their weight and then some, as there were 100 bags of rubbish collected.
Conservancy member, Marianne Forsyth-Coetzee, said it was important to involve the youth as they are the future, and educating them on the importance of looking after our environment is vital.
