Music that brings memories with Ali Pucci

The Resonanze Music School vocal coach recently added Seniors Singalong to her week and loves every minute of connecting with the elderly through music.

Ali Pucci’s grand descent into music was while she attended Roosevelt High School and portrayed the role of Sandy in Grease at the school’s major production. Since then music has been the beat that has fuelled her passion for life, and all things pumping.

Pucci is currently a vocal coach at Berario Recreational Centre’s Resonanze Music School and through her many years with the music school, she has fallen in love with the process of teaching. She explained it boasts an array of musical instruments such as the marimba, drums, violin, piano, guitar and bass guitar and a whole lot more.

On Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s her day includes teaching vocals. Her Wednesday also has the added pleasure of taking seniors on a musical stroll down memory lane through her Seniors Singalong. The idea of having such a class came after the reception she received from the elderly when she would perform at various old age homes. “We would put on a show and play all the oldies, from Elvis to The Beatles we would entertain and put on a show for them. Goodness, the light in their eyes, I saw it and it touched me. So approached the school and explained I would love to do something with senior citizens.”

Pucci explained studies have proven that music as the capability to improve mood and reduces agitation, stimulate memory, enhances cognitive function, provide a means of communication and enhances socialisation. “There have been instances where one hears a song and immediately they remember where they were, what they were wearing and who they were with. Bringing back memories both happy and some a bit sad,” she said.

She describes this class as being one meant for anyone in the community who just wants to go down memory lane all having the pleasure to socialise with other people.
